Upstream Operations

Upstream is where oil and gas are found and produced. Yorkwell Petroleum takes part through commercial relationships with producers and operating partners.

Our role

We do not own or operate wells, fields or production facilities. Our work is commercial: understanding what a producer has available, what a buyer needs, and whether the two can be matched on specification, volume and timing.

Crude oil is not one product. Each grade has its own density, sulfur content and yield of refined products, and a refinery is set up to run particular grades. Matching a grade to a buyer is the first step in an upstream trade.

The oil and gas value chain

  1. UpstreamExploration and production
  2. MidstreamTransport and storage
  3. DownstreamRefining
  4. DownstreamDistribution
  5. MarketEnd users
Yorkwell works on the commercial links between these stages. The assets belong to their operators.

What we coordinate

  • Supply opportunities from producers and operating partners
  • Specification and volume against buyer requirements
  • The link from production to transport and storage

From here, product moves through midstream infrastructure. See the crude oil and products we trade.
