Diesel EN590 10ppm and Gas Oil 50ppm

Yorkwell Petroleum trades and brokers ultra-low-sulfur diesel to the European EN 590 standard, and gas oil with a maximum of 50 ppm sulfur.

Two products, two specifications

EN 590 is the European standard for automotive diesel. It sets a maximum of 10 mg/kg of sulfur, which is why the product is often called 10 ppm or ultra-low-sulfur diesel.

Gas oil 50 ppm is traded on a contract specification that limits sulfur to 50 ppm. Its other properties are agreed for each trade, so the buyer should name them in the inquiry.

Cold-weather properties depend on the climate class named in the contract. The temperate classes A to F set a cold filter plugging point from +5 °C down to −20 °C.

How a diesel trade is handled

  • The buyer names the standard, the climate class and the quantity.
  • An independent inspector samples and tests the product at loading.
  • Certificates of quality and quantity go with the shipping documents.
  • Delivery terms, such as FOB, CIF or DAP, are fixed in the contract.

Questions we are asked

Is 10 ppm the same as 10 mg/kg?

Yes. For sulfur in diesel, 10 ppm by mass and 10 mg/kg describe the same limit.

Can you supply other diesel specifications?
